Rhododendron - Catawbiense Album
Part of the Iron-Clad series. An elepidote, tall growing Rhododendron. 2 3/8″-3″ flowers are pink in bud and open white with a greenish-yellow blotch. Flowers are born in trusses of 18 during late midseason. Vigorous, growing 5′-6′ high and wide in a 10 year period.

Origin
Parentage unknown. Rhododendron catawbiense hybrid or selection. Introduced by Anthony Waterer of England before 1900.
Special Notes
Exposure: Morning Sun, afternoon shade or all day filtered light. Protect from the hot mid-day sun. Protect from the prevailing winter winds, plant in a sheltered location.
Soil: A very acidic, moist but well draining soil is required. Avoid heavy compacted soils such as clay.
Maintenance: Selective pruning right after flowering in done. Dead-heading is recommended for increased flower production the following year.
Iron-Clad Rhododendrons are a group of 12 older hybridized selections able to withstand extreme cold temperatures.
