Hybrid Flowering Dogwood - Starlight®

A vigorous, upright growing Hybrid Flowering Dogwood. Produces an abundance of white (with a slight green sheen) 4 – 5″ bracts (flowers). Glossy green leaves turn an orangey-red during fall. Attractive strawberry-like fruit can also be seen during fall. Grows 18-20′ high by 12′ wide.

Origin

Hybrid seedling between Cornus kousa 'Simpson No. 1' and Cornus nuttallii 'Goldspot'. Developed by Rutgers University in 1973.

Synonymous

Cornus kousa x nuttallii 'KN4-43', Cornus x 'Rutstar'

Special Notes

Exposure: Full Sun to Part Sun.

Soil: Well workable, moist but well draining slightly acidic soil. Dislikes heavy clay soils.

Maintenance: Selective pruning as needed, can be done in the spring right after the flowers finish. Do not trim summer or afterwards as, you will be removing next springs flower buds.
