Chinese Flowering Dogwood - Daybreak

A variegated Chinese Flowering Dogwood with pink flowers! Green foliage is edged with creamy-white variegation throughout the season taking on shades of red during fall time. Bracts (flowers) start off white but mature pink during mid-to-late spring. The intensity of the pink colouration can be dependent on spring temperatures. Red strawberry-like fruit is also seen during the fall. Slower grower than other varieties, growing 12′ – 15′ high by 10′ – 12′ wide.

Origin

Found as a branch sport on Cornus kousa 'Satomi' by Shibamichi Nursery of Japan.

Special Notes

Exposure: Part Sun or all day indirect/filtered light. Protected from the hot mid-day sun.

Soil: Well workable, moist but well draining slightly acidic soil. Dislikes heavy clay soils.

Maintenance: Selective pruning as needed, can be done in the spring right after the flowers finish. Do not trim summer or afterwards as, you will be removing next springs flower buds.
