Eastern Redbud - Forest Pansy
NATIVAR – A purple-leafed Eastern Redbud. Size and shape similar to the species but new heart-shaped leaves emerge beautiful purple in colour and mature to a darker green tone by summer. Fall colour brings shades of reddish-purple and orange. Rosy-mauve pea-like flowers open before foliage in the spring. Grows 15-20′ high and wide.

Origin
Parentage unknown. Found as a seedling selected by Forest Nursery of Tennessee in 1947.
Special Notes
Exposure: Full Sun to Part Sun. Shelter from winter winds.
Soil: Prefers moist, well draining soils. Dislikes heavy compacted clay or very sandy dry soils.
Maintenance: Selective pruning to shape right after flowering. Remove dead wood in early spring.
