Japanese Maple - Dancing Red-Faced Monkey
A variegated Japanese Maple considered an improvement over the traditional ‘Butterfly’ and ‘Beni shichihenge’. New spring leaves emerge a greyish-green colour with deep-pink margins causing the leaf tips to bend like a sickle. By summer, the pink lightens up a bit but the leaves remain variegated. Fall colour is bright orange. Grows 8′ high by 4′ wide in a 10 year period.

Origin
Parentage unknown. Introduced by Edward Rodd of Raraflora Nursery, Pennsylvania.
Special Notes
Exposure: Part Sun or all day indirect/filtered light. Protected from the hot mid-day sun.
Soil: Well workable, moist but well draining slightly acidic soil. Dislikes heavy clay soils.
Maintenance: Selective pruning as needed, can be done during winter up until early August.
