Rhododendron ‘Holden’s Red’
Rhododendron - Holden's™ Red
An elepidote, medium growing Rhododendron bred to withstand Phytophthora cinnamomi which causes root rot. Wavy, 2 1/2″ flowers are dark pink to red in colour and are born in trusses of 11 to 23 flowers. Blooms mid-late May. Compact, growing 4′ high and wide in a 10 year period.

Origin
Hybrid seedling of Rhododendron 'Ingrid Mehlquist' and Rhododendron 'Pride's Early Red'. Bred in 2003 and introduced by the Holden Arboretum in Ohio.

Special Notes
Exposure: Morning Sun, afternoon shade or all day filtered light. Protect from the hot mid-day sun. Protect from the prevailing winter winds, plant in a sheltered location.
Soil: A very acidic, moist but well draining soil is required. Avoid heavy compacted soils such as clay.
Maintenance: Selective pruning right after flowering in done. Dead-heading is recommended for increased flower production the following year.
