
Rhododendron ‘Black Hat’
Rhododendron - Black Hat®
A lepidote, medium growing Rhododendron. Long lasting, 2″ flowers are lavender-pink with a strong purplish-red blotch. Blooms early season in trusses of 3-12 flowers. Of course its main feature are its leaves which turn near black in colour during the winter months. Compact, grows 3′ high and wide in a 10 year period.

Hybrid seedling of Rhododendron 'Elite' and Rhododendron 'Bubblegum'. Selected by Thomas Green Ranney of North Carolina in 2007.

Special Notes
Exposure: Morning Sun, afternoon shade or all day filtered light. Protect from the hot mid-day sun. Protect from the prevailing winter winds, plant in a sheltered location.
Soil: A very acidic, moist but well draining soil is required. Avoid heavy compacted soils such as clay.
Maintenance: Selective pruning right after flowering in done. Dead-heading is recommended for increased flower production the following year.
