Swiss Stone Pine - Pygmaea

A dwarf Swiss Stone Pine that has short, blue-green needles on congested tufts. Broadly conical shape which is compared to that of a beehive. Grows 3-4′ high by 2′ wide in a 10 year period.

Parentage unknown. First listed in 1855.

Special Notes

Exposure: Full Sun to Part Sun or all day indirect/filtered light.

Soil: Well workable, moist but well draining acidic soil. Dislikes heavy clay soils.

Maintenance: Candling is done to new spring shoots before the needles fully emerge.

Group: Dwarf

Krüssmann considered the original, slower growing cultivar to be lost in time with all modern ‘Pygmaea’ growing more vigorously, as listed.
