European Beech

A large growing, very formal tree. Lush dark green leaves emerge a bit lighter in colour and turn golden in fall before transitioning to brown and clinging on for most of the winter. Smooth grey bark when young becomes coarse and resembles elephant skin with age. Grows 60′ high by 50′ wide.

Native to central Europe.

Exposure: Full Sun to Part Sun.

Soil: Prefers moist, well draining soils. Dislikes heavy compacted clay.

Maintenance: Selective pruning as needed from spring to early August.

Branches can mesh together like that of a Fig.
