Fraser Fir

A semi-large growing Fir, often used as a Christmas Tree due to its pyramidal shape of strong branches and mild fragrance. Glossy dark green needles are 12-20mm long. Small cones are 3-6cm emerging dark purple and maturing purplish-brown. Resin can be extracted from its bark blisters. Grows 8′ high by 3-4′ wide in a 10 year period.

Origin

Native sparsely to Western North Carolina, Eastern Tennessee and Southwestern Virginia.

Special Notes

Exposure: Prefers full sun to partial shade.

Soil: Prefers acidic, moist but well draining workable soil. Dislikes extremes such as wet or bone-dry soils.

Maintenance: Selective trimming only when needed.
