Japanese Maple - Sickle Shaped (Eagle's Claw)

A dwarf Japanese Maple with hooked leaf lobes that bend downwards slightly like an eagle’s claw with margins curving upwards. New green leaves are edged with red at first, transitioning to a solid green by summer. By fall the foliage changes to shades of scarlet, orange and yellow. Grows 4′ high by 3′ wide in a 10 year period.

Parentage unknown. Introduced by the legendary J. D. Vertrees.

Special Notes

Exposure: Full Sun to Part Sun or all day indirect/filtered light.

Soil: Well workable, moist but well draining slightly acidic soil. Dislikes heavy clay soils.

Maintenance: Selective pruning as needed, can be done during winter up until early August.
