A lesser known Hornbeam most loved in the Bonsai world due to its very small leaves and shrubby, short irregular stems and its ability to handle very hard pruning. If left on its own, it develops into a flat-topped, rounded small tree either single stem or multi-stemmed. Branches are often pendulous. Green leaves turn yellow in the fall. Grows 15′ high by 12′ wide.
