Magnolia grandiflora ‘Kay Parris’

Southern Magnolia - Kay Parris

A compact version of Southern Magnolia! Smaller leaves than other varieties, which are rich glossy green with heavy orange-brown fuzz (indumentum) on the underside, more so than other varieties. Free-flowering form, flowers are smaller than the species but extremely fragrant blooming from late spring into September. Grows 20′ high by 10′ wide.

Origin

Believed to be a cross between 'Little Gem' and 'Bracken's Brown Beauty'. Selected by Kevin Parris of South Carolina in 1991.

Special Notes

Exposure:Full Sun to Part Sun. Plant out of the prevailing winter winds.

Soil: Adaptable to various soils. Likes acidic soils.

Maintenance: Selective pruning right after flowering. Pruning in fall or spring will remove flower buds.
