Witch Hazel - Hybrid - Early Spring

A medium sized Witch Hazel with a vase shaped growth habit. Bright yellow flowers appear in spring on bare branches later than other cultivars. The flowers are sweetly fragrant and have a dark red calyx. Medium green spring leaves emerge with a hint of bronze and transition to sage-green by summer before turning yellow and orange in the fall. Grows 12′ high and wide.

Origin

Parentage unknown. Introduced by the De Belder family of Belgium in 1969 at Kalmhout Arboretum.

Special Notes

Exposure: Full Sun to Part Sun.

Soil: Tolerant of various soils but prefers a well draining one, slightly acidic.

Maintenance: Selective trimming in spring right after the flowers have finished. Do not trim in fall, as flower buds have already been set.
