A very old and very variable Satsuki Azalea. Large, 2.5-3″ ruffled flowers can range from purple-pink tones potentially edged in white to completely white. Flowers can also be white edged in pink or light pink edged in darker pink, with many shades in-between. Blooms very late into June. Low and spreading.

Origin

Cross between Azalea 'Myozan' and Azalea 'Juko'. Introduced in 1939.

Special Notes

Exposure: Morning Sun, afternoon shade or all day filtered light. Protect from the hot mid-day sun. Protect from the prevailing winter winds, plant in a sheltered location.

Soil: A very acidic, moist but well draining soil is required. Avoid heavy compacted soils such as clay.

Maintenance: Selective pruning right after flowering in done. Dead-heading is recommended for increased flower production the following year.
