Acer palmatum ‘Trompenburg’
Japanese Maple - Trompenburg
The unusual leaves on this Japanese Maple are almost claw-like in appearance. Long narrow leaf lobes roll downwards to create a tube-like shape. Red new spring leaves turn a rich deep purple for most of summer. Later summer, bronzy-green tones are seen. Fall colour is crimson. Upright, grows 10′ high by 7′ wide in a 10 year period.

Origin
Parentage unknown. Chance seedling selected by J. R. P. van Hoey-Smith at the Trompenburg Arboretum in the Netherlands.
Special Notes
Exposure: Full Sun to Part Sun or all day indirect/filtered light.
Soil: Well workable, moist but well draining slightly acidic soil. Dislikes heavy clay soils.
Maintenance: Selective pruning as needed, can be done during winter up until early August.
