Japanese Maple - Skeeter's Broom

A narrow upright Japanese Maple which has small leaves with longer lobes than most other witch’s brooms. New spring foliage emerges bright red and transitions to a deep purple-red by summer. Bright red fall colour. Grows 5′ high by 3′ wide in a 10 year period.

Origin

Found as a witch's broom on Acer palmatum 'Bloodgood' by Edward Rodd of Raraflora Nursery, Pennsylvania.

Special Notes

Exposure: Full Sun to Part Sun or all day indirect/filtered light.

Soil: Well workable, moist but well draining slightly acidic soil. Dislikes heavy clay soils.

Maintenance: Selective pruning as needed, can be done during winter up until early August.
