Japanese Maple - Star of the Sandpiper

A reticulated variegated Japanese Maple which is similar to ‘Shigitatsu sawa’. New deeply divided spring leaves emerge a creamy-yellow with their veins highlighted in light green. As the leaves mature, they become creamy-green with darker green veins by summer. For fall, the foliage turns bright yellow. Grows 4-5′ high and wide in a 10 year period.

Origin

Parentage unknown. Introduced by Yutaka Tanaka of Tsukasa Maple Nursery, Japan.

Special Notes

Exposure: Part Sun or all day indirect/filtered light. Protected from the hot mid-day sun.

Soil: Well workable, moist but well draining slightly acidic soil. Dislikes heavy clay soils.

Maintenance: Selective pruning as needed, can be done during winter up until early August.
