Japanese Maple - Red Pygmy

A nice dwarf, ‘ribbonleaf’ Japanese Maple which is superior to the original ‘Atrolineare’ in colour retention. Narrow long red strap-like lobe leaves emerge bright red in the spring, turning a purplish-red colour which holds well in summer till late when green tones start to emerge. Yellow-red fall colours are displayed. A round-topped shrub, growing 6′ high by 3′ wide in a 10 year period.

Parentage unknown. Introduced by Firma C. Esveld Nursery in Boskoop, Netherlands.

Special Notes

Exposure: Part Sun or all day indirect/filtered light. Protected from the hot mid-day sun.

Soil: Well workable, moist but well draining slightly acidic soil. Dislikes heavy clay soils.

Maintenance: Selective pruning as needed, can be done during winter up until early August.
