Japanese Maple - Red Cloud

A red ribbon-leaf style Japanese Maple growing faster than ‘Red Pygmy’ but slower than ‘Beni otake’. Spring leaves emerge bright red with greenish-yellow midveins. Leaves turn to purplish-red by summer before turning orange-red in the fall. Overall has a cloud-like appearance. Grows 8′ high by 5′ wide in a 10 year period.

Origin

Seedling from Acer palmatum 'Scolopendrifolium' discovered by Dr. Corbin, Oregon. Introduced by Buchholz Nursery, Oregon.

Special Notes

Exposure: Part Sun or all day indirect/filtered light. Protected from the hot mid-day sun.

Soil: Well workable, moist but well draining slightly acidic soil. Dislikes heavy clay soils.

Maintenance: Selective pruning as needed, can be done during winter up until early August.
