Japanese Maple - Hubb's Red Willow

An upright, vase shaped Japanese Maple with ‘ribbonleaf’ foliage given it a Bamboo appearance. Large leaves with long narrow lobes emerge pink in the spring, transitioning to a deep burgundy that lasts into summer. Brilliant orange and red fall colours. Grows 8′ high by 4′ wide in a 10 year period.

Origin

Parentage unknown. Introduced by Red Maple Nursery, Pennsylvania and named after Elwood Hubb of New Jersey.

Special Notes

Exposure: Part Sun or all day indirect/filtered light. Protected from the hot mid-day sun.

Soil: Well workable, moist but well draining slightly acidic soil. Dislikes heavy clay soils.

Maintenance: Selective pruning as needed, can be done during winter up until early August.
