Japanese Maple - Aekan Ie's

A ‘ribbonleaf’ style of Japanese Maple with leaves consisting of long narrow lobes to give it a very airy look. Red new spring leaves turn dark purple and maintains this colour through summer until fall when it turns a reddish-orange. Similar to ‘Red Pygmy’ but more horizontal growing. Grows 6′ high by 4′ wide in a 10 year period.

Special Notes

Exposure: Part Sun or all day indirect/filtered light. Protected from the hot mid-day sun.

Soil: Well workable, moist but well draining slightly acidic soil. Dislikes heavy clay soils.

Maintenance: Selective pruning as needed, can be done during winter up until early August.

Some sources list this to be synonymous with ‘Enkan’ including the world maple checklist. However, other sources claim these are different with ‘Enkan’ having a more redder leaf and ‘Aekan Ie’s’ having a redder bark tone.
