Rhododendron - Haaga

An extremely cold hardy, elepidote, tall growing Rhododendron. 2 1/8″ to 2 3/4″ wavy edged flowers are bright pink with a purplish-brown blotch. Blooms late season in trusses of 15-20 flowers. Upright, growing 5′ high and wide in a 10 year period.

Origin

Hybrid seedling of Rhododendron brachycarpum ssp tigerstedtii x Rhododendron 'Doctor H.C. Dresselhuys'. Introduced by Dr. Marjatta Uosukainen of the Univeristy of Finland in 1974.

Special Notes

Exposure: Morning Sun, afternoon shade or all day filtered light. Protect from the hot mid-day sun. Protect from the prevailing winter winds, plant in a sheltered location.

Soil: A very acidic, moist but well draining soil is required. Avoid heavy compacted soils such as clay.

Maintenance: Selective pruning right after flowering in done. Dead-heading is recommended for increased flower production the following year.
