Witch Hazel - Common - Mohonk Red

NATIVAR – A very unusually large growing form of our native Witch Hazel. Fall fragrant flowers are red with yellow tips. Flowers bloom in conjunction with the leaves but the red colouration adds a nice contrast. Light green spring leaves mature dark green and turn yellow in the fall. Grows 15′-20′ high and wide.

Origin

Parentage unknown. Found at the Mohonk Nature Preserve, New York in 1998 by Paul Huth and introduced by the Arnold Arboretum.

Special Notes

Exposure: Full Sun to Part Sun.

Soil: Tolerant of various soils but prefers a well draining one, slightly acidic.

Maintenance: Selective trimming in spring right after the flowers have finished. Do not trim in fall, as flower buds have already been set.
