Hamamelis vernalis ‘Kohankie Red’
Witch Hazel - Ozark - Kohankie Red
A medium sized Witch Hazel with very fragrant reddish-purple flowers with orange tips. Flowers are born on bare stems in mid-to-late winter with a purple-red calyx. Dark green foliage emerges with purple hints in the spring and transitions to shades of yellow, orange and red during the fall. Grows 8′ high by 9′ wide.

Origin
Parentage unknown. Originated from Kohankie Nursery in Perry, Ohio during the late 1950s. Introduced by Chris Lane in 2003.
Special Notes
Exposure: Full Sun to Part Sun.
Soil: Tolerant of various soils but prefers a well draining one, slightly acidic.
Maintenance: Selective trimming in spring right after the flowers have finished. Do not trim in fall, as flower buds have already been set.
