Hamamelis japonica ‘Tsukubana kurenai’
Witch Hazel - Japanese - Tsukubana kurreani
A semi-dwarf to medium sized Witch Hazel. Twisted purple-red flowers appear on bare stems around February to March (a bit later than other varieties). Dark green leaves have slight glossy appearance. Grows slowly to 8′-10′ high and wide.

Origin
Parentage unknown. Introduced by Akira Shibamichi of Japan in 2008. Named after the city of Tsukuba in Japan, in which it was first discovered.

Special Notes
Exposure: Full Sun to Part Sun.
Soil: Tolerant of various soils but prefers a well draining one, slightly acidic.
Maintenance: Selective trimming in spring right after the flowers have finished. Do not trim in fall, as flower buds have already been set.
