Azalea - Snowbird

A deciduous Azalea which has pink buds opening white with pink flushes. Flowers are very fragrant, blooming early midseason. Powdery mildew resistant foliage is blue-green in colour and transitions to shades of orange, red and yellow in the fall. Grows 4′ high and wide in a 10 year period.

Origin

Hybrid seedling of Azalea atlanticum and Azalea canescens. Bred by Biltmore Gardens of North Carolina in 1955.

Special Notes

Exposure: Morning Sun, afternoon shade or all day filtered light. Protect from the hot mid-day sun. Protect from the prevailing winter winds, plant in a sheltered location.

Soil: A very acidic, moist but well draining soil is required. Avoid heavy compacted soils such as clay.

Maintenance: Selective pruning right after flowering in done. Dead-heading is recommended for increased flower production the following year.
