Japanese Maple - Sir Damon
A new and improved coral bark Japanese Maple! Brighter red new growth and bark staying red, longer with age compared to ‘Sango kaku’. New spring growth is a chartreuse green with orange margins, turning solid green by summer. During the fall, the foliage changes to bright yellow. Red stems and bark are extra showy during the winter months. Grows 8-10′ high by 6′ wide in a 10 year period.

Origin
Parentage unknown. Found and introduced by Crispin's Creations Nursery, Oregon. Named after Crispin's son Damon.
Special Notes
Exposure: Full Sun to Part Sun or all day indirect/filtered light. Must be planted in a well protected area out of the prevailing winter winds.
Soil: Well workable, moist but well draining slightly acidic soil. Dislikes heavy clay soils.
Maintenance: Selective pruning as needed, can be done during winter up until early August.

Being part of the coral bark family of Japanese Maples, caution is strongly recommended to be planted in a very sheltered area. Coral bark maples are very sensitive to temperature changes often leading to tissue dieback on the branches. An extremely fluctuating winter can lead to complete demise.
