Japanese Maple - Shaina

A nice upright dwarf Japanese Maple which has small roundish leaves which cluster together. Foliage emerges bright red in the spring transitioning to a dark purplish-red by summer and returning to a bright red fall colour. Grows 6′ high by 3′ wide in a 10 year period.

Origin

Found as a witch's broom by Richard P. Wolff of Red Maple Nursery, Pennsylvania on a 100 year old Acer palmatum f. atropurpureum in the early 1980's. Named in 1984.

Special Notes

Exposure: Full Sun to Part Sun or all day indirect/filtered light.

Soil: Well workable, moist but well draining slightly acidic soil. Dislikes heavy clay soils.

Maintenance: Selective pruning as needed, can be done during winter up until early August.
