Acer palmatum ‘Seigen’

Japanese Maple - Dark Blue-Green

This popular, dwarf bonsai Japanese Maple is very similar to ‘Shin deshojo’ but leafs out earlier and being less susceptable to powdery mildew. New spring leaves emerge bright fiery-red and last for several weeks before transitioning to light green by summer. In the fall, leaves turn yellow and red. Light speckled variegation on the foliage can often be seen. Grows 6′ high and wide in a 10 year period.

Exposure: Full Sun to Part Sun or all day indirect/filtered light.

Soil: Well workable, moist but well draining slightly acidic soil. Dislikes heavy clay soils.

Maintenance: Selective pruning as needed, can be done during winter up until early August.
