Japanese Maple - King George's Broom

A stunning, newer dwarf Japanese Maple! New spring foliage emerges a bright pinkish-red and matures dark maroon by summer with a green center. A second flush of pinkish-red foliage in the summer, creates a stunning two tone effect. Fall foliage turns bright orange and red. Grows 3-4′ high and wide in a 10 year period.

Origin

Found as a witch's broom on Acer palmatum f. atropurpureum. Introduced by Ed Shinn, New Jersey.

Special Notes

Exposure: Full Sun to Part Sun or all day indirect/filtered light.

Soil: Well workable, moist but well draining slightly acidic soil. Dislikes heavy clay soils.

Maintenance: Selective pruning as needed, can be done during winter up until early August.
