Japanese Maple - Hefner's Red

Similar to the traditional ‘Bloodgood’, this Japanese Maple proves to be more heat tolerant holding its colour longer. Leaves emerge bright red in the spring and mature to burgundy-purple by summer before transitioning to a bright red in the fall. Upright, vase shaped grows 10′ high by 8′ wide in a 10 year period.

Origin

Parentage unknown. Found as a chance seedling by Hefner’s Nursery, North Carolina.

Special Notes

Exposure: Full Sun to Part Sun or all day indirect/filtered light.

Soil: Well workable, moist but well draining slightly acidic soil. Dislikes heavy clay soils.

Maintenance: Selective pruning as needed, can be done during winter up until early August.
