Japanese Maple - Colorful Crepe Paper

Small and unusual leaves where each lobe is very elongated with a short tail-like tip. In the spring, green leaves emerge with pink variegation which later change to irregular yellow markings. The variegation is very delicate and can be missed. A shrubby plant, growing about 5′ high in a 10 year period. This variety is not very well known outside of Japan.

Parentage unknown. Listed in the 1882 Sekihin Binran.

Special Notes

Exposure: Full Sun to Part Sun or all day indirect/filtered light.

Soil: Well workable, moist but well draining slightly acidic soil. Dislikes heavy clay soils.

Maintenance: Selective pruning as needed, can be done during winter up until early August.
