Flaky Fir - Flaky
A stunning semi-dwarf Flaky Fir. Reddish-brown bark exfoliates in flakes to give a pleasing winter interest. Stunning, velvety-purple cones are held upright on stems with dark blue-green needles. Grows 8′ high by 4′ wide in a 10 year period.

Origin
Introduced by Buchholz Nursery, Oregon in 1986. Talon Buchholz in a recent blog, noted that 'Flaky' is not actually a cultivar at all. There was a naming missunderstanding early on, and all 'Flaky' cultivars are really just the species.
Special Notes
Exposure: Prefers full sun to partial shade.
Soil: Prefers acidic, moist but well draining workable soil. Dislikes extremes such as wet or bone-dry soils.
Maintenance: Selective trimming only when needed.
