Japanese Maple - Sharp's Pygmy

A dwarf Japanese Maple which creates a natural bonsai look. Small leaves which are slightly tipped downwards on short internode branches emerge light green in spring. Darkening by summer, the foliage turns brilliant crimson in fall. Dense, grows 3′ high by 4′ wide in a 10 year period.

Origin

Parentage unknown. Found as a chance seedling by Jimmy Sharp in the early 1980s.

Special Notes

Exposure: Full Sun to Part Sun or all day indirect/filtered light.

Soil: Well workable, moist but well draining slightly acidic soil. Dislikes heavy clay soils.

Maintenance: Selective pruning as needed, can be done during winter up until early August.
