NATIVAR – The very classic and very old variety of Eastern White Pine. Soft, long, blue-green needles appear on this graceful weeping tree that are loosely branched. Often used as a specimen. Puts on ~10′ of growth per 10 years but needs to be staked to obtain desired height.

Origin

Parentage unknown. Recorded as early as 1866 by Nelson in his book Pinaceae: Being a Handbook of the Firs and Pines.

Special Notes

Exposure: Full Sun to Part Sun or all day indirect/filtered light.

Soil: Well workable, moist but well draining acidic soil. Dislikes heavy clay soils. Intolerant to salt.

Maintenance: Candling is done to new spring shoots before the needles fully emerge.
